Copper color by Lizzie at our Fort Greene location
When the leaves start turning in Carroll Gardens and Fort Greene, our Soonies start asking for the same thing: warmth. Copper and ginger are one of this season’s biggest color moves, from glowing strawberry-gold to deep, rich copper, and they look just as good on a brownstone-lined street in October light as they do at brunch.
What Copper and Ginger Hair Actually Looks Like
Copper is the richer, more fiery of the two: a red-orange with a metallic glow that catches the light. Ginger is its softer, golden cousin, closer to a natural redhead with plenty of warmth and dimension. Somewhere in between, you’ll find strawberry copper, burnished auburn, and honeyed ginger, and your SBL stylist can help you land on the exact shade that suits your skin tone and your natural base.
Who It’s Best For
Copper and ginger look beautiful across a wide range of hair colors and textures, as the photo above shows on soft, springy curls. If you’re starting from a darker base, we’ll talk through how much lift you need and how bright you want to go. Just know that reds and coppers are the quickest shades to fade, so this is a color that rewards a little maintenance.
Why We Color Copper With Kevin Murphy Color.Me
At Soon Beauty Lab, we color with Kevin Murphy Color.Me, and it’s a big reason we love working in copper and ginger. Color.Me is a honey-based color that’s free from ammonia and PPD, and the shades are rich in honey, pomegranate, shea butter, rose hip, and aloe vera. The honey is sourced from a sustainable bee farm in Italy. The range includes a full family of red and copper tones, delivers up to four levels of lift, and gives up to 100% gray coverage, so it works whether you’re going copper for the first time or refreshing a shade you already love.
What to Expect at Your Appointment
We’ll start with a consultation to talk through your hair history and the exact warmth you’re after. From there, your SBL stylist will mix a custom Color.Me formula, apply it, and finish with a Kevin Murphy gloss to seal in shine and fine-tune the tone. The look pictured above was created by Lizzie at our Fort Greene location. Lizzie styled these curls with Kevin Murphy Killer Curls, and she always recommends K-18 Repair Mask to keep curls healthy and bouncy between visits.
Keeping Copper Bright
Copper fades faster than almost any other shade, but a few easy habits keep it glowing. Book a Haircut + Color Gloss between color appointments to refresh both shine and tone without a full color service. At home, ask your stylist which Kevin Murphy wash & rinse duo is right for your color, and rinse with cooler water whenever you can.
