OUR STORY

Melissa and Ryan first met working at a hair salon in Ohio. Both eventually made their way to New York City, where Melissa opened the original Soon Beauty Lab in the East Village in 1999. A decade later Ryan joined her, and the two went on to open a second location together in Carroll Gardens in 2011 — a neighborhood they both called home, and one they felt deserved a great salon of its own. Along the way, the salons built a loyal following of clients from Manhattan who had made the move to Brooklyn themselves, following Melissa and Ryan to their new home turf.

Soon Beauty Lab was built on the idea that a great salon experience should feel personal, not performative. That means real listening, real skill, and stylists who genuinely care about how clients look and feel when they leave. Melissa and Ryan have always believed that creating an inspiring, comfortable space — one where stylists can keep growing is what makes great hair and a great salon.

SUSTAINABILITY

Being eco-friendly matters at Soon Beauty Lab. The team partners with Green Circle Salons to properly recycle salon waste that would otherwise end up in a landfill — even the hair — and uses VISH software to measure and mitigate color and chemical waste. Kevin Murphy color and hair care, used throughout the salons, is formulated with a lot of natural ingredients as well.

TEAM & TRAINING

our stylists are mentored and trained in-house, so the whole team keeps growing together. Melissa in particular loves mentoring and teaching new hairstylists, and creating that kind of comfortable, inspiring space — for clients and stylists alike — has always been part of what Soon Beauty Lab is about.
